Have you ever felt drawn to a particular tree or maybe felt curious about how you might be able to communicate with them? Let’s talk about the science and the spirit of tree communication with none other than our resident green witch, Rachael from Our Infinite Nature. We talked about mycelial networks, intuitive energy exchanges, and everything in between. After listening to this episode, this might change how you see the trees lining your street and inspire you to grow deeper with them.

Many of us have walked past a tree too many times, but we might have never really seen it. Who knows, that tree could have tried to connect with you. And if you’ve tried to really listen, what if that becomes the beginning of your relationship with the tree?
Rachel mentioned that the moment you notice a tree, you’re already in dialogue. Trees communicate in so many ways, both scientific and spiritual, such as through mycelial networks underground, chemical signals in the air (scents), and even energy exchanges that sensitive people like Rachael can feel.
Trees aren’t competing but collaborating: For over 50 years, people believed that trees were competing with each other, but thanks to the work of people like Dr. Suzanne Simard, we’ve learned that trees are collaborating and communicating with each other.
Scent as the tree’s language: That fresh cut grass smell that we all know is actually a distress call! Trees and plants release something called phytochemicals when under attack in order to alert their neighbors that something is harming them.
AI, bioelectricity & PlantWave technology: Scientists are starting to learn how to translate the movement of water, trees, and plants into sounds we can hear, or even words. New tech like PlantWave allows people to “listen” to plants by translating their “bioelectrical” sounds, while the Trinity College of Dublin used AI to turn the trees’ frequencies into human language. The future of tree communication could be as techy as it is spiritual.
Rachael shares her personal practice of connecting intuitively with trees and invites us to try it, too.
Being around trees reduces stress and helps you breathe better as it oxygenates your blood. In fact, we have more in common with trees than we have differences. We both have DNA, we breathe, and we have vascular systems. We both have ways of communicating and supporting each other because we both have this type of intelligence.
Tree communication usually comes via different intuitive channels, or “clairs,” which differ among people:
For example, I identify myself as a “download” person. I learned this from Rachael’s Intuitive Magic course about these diverse intuitive pathways (there are 9 of them).
Once you start to see trees as relatives rather than objects, as elders rather than just part of the scenery, it really changes how you move through the world.
Here’s our challenge for you: this week, go notice a tree. You can hug or sit with your back against it. Try to observe its leaves, bark, and canopy. You can even ask what it wants to tell you. There’s no “right” way to do this because all you need to do is show up with openness and curiosity.
Then, let the tree do the rest.
