You are the “Low Maintenance Plant Parent"!

The LMP is a whirling dervish, juggling a multitude of things like a job, kids, travel and a social life, so there isn’t much room for long periods of plant care.

You appreciate the benefits of having plants at home, but need hardy plants that can be forgiving when watering slips your mind (we’ve all been there!). In order for plants to bring you joy and not add stress: drought tolerant, easy care plants are key to your plant parent happiness.

You’re amazing at:

Recognizing the power plants have to transform your home and life

Giving your plants the space to grow at their own pace

You likely struggle with:

Underwatering: you’re busy! And sometimes that means you skip a watering session or fall out of your plant care routine.

Tip: No fear, plant friend. You’re doing great. Try and set a reminder to check in on your plants once a week, even if it's just for 5 minutes, and while you’re at it, take a few minutes for yourself! You deserve it.

Plant death: because you travel frequently and/or go through periods of forgetting about your plant babies- you might suffer from a plant death or two occasionally. It happens!

Tips:
  • Understand that plant death is part of plant parenthood and try and learn one lesson from each loss to help you continue to bloom and grow as a plant parent!
  • Look into self watering planters, they have so many “set it and forget it options”
  • I published an episode about how I killed a lot of plants last year and how I handled it. Check it out!

The Low Maintenance List of Dream Plants!

Low maintenance, forgiving plants will be your besties. Lucky for you there are loads of options to pick from!

General Plant Names to look for:

General plant names to look for are: Cacti, Corn Plant, Figs/Rubber Plants (Ficus), Haworthia, Snake Plants (Sansevieria), Philodendron, Pothos, Peperomia, Succulents and ZZ plants. But here are some of my specific favorites to look for!

How this list works:

Plants are broken down based on lighting requirements, and then size.I’ve given you both common and scientific names to help you ID them at your local plant shops. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! The pink plants are usually easier to find.

Practice: Create a plant care self care routine

To ensure you don’t forget about your plant babies, tie your plant care to a self care or wake up or wind down routine. Check in on your plants while you make your coffee in the morning, or as you wind down for bed at night. Use this list of plant care routine prompts from my book to reflect on your day while you care for plants.

Routine  -  Corresponding Question to ask yourself

Watering - How hydrated am I today? What is replenishing me emotionally right now?

Wiping dust off leaves - What areas of my life are feeling stagnant and need a little metaphorical “dusting” off? Take a moment to observe your own emotions—what feelings have been lingering that you might have been avoiding?

Checking soil moisture levels - How do you feel in your body
this moment? What might you need more or less of—sleep, food, exercise?

Inspecting the underside of leaves, soil and stems for pests and signs of disease - What areas of my life have a toxic element I need to address? What routine maintenance and self-care can I be exploring in my own life?

Rotating your pots of plants to allow all sides of the plant to have light - Ask yourself: what positive elements of my life can I develop? What am I excited to focus on right now?

Pruning yellow or brown leaves - Ask yourself: what do i need to “prune” in my life in order to allow for new growth
